Under the proposed law, marrying a woman while concealing one’s identity would be a criminal for the first time: Amit Shah Deba, August 12, 2023August 12, 2023 The proposed Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) Bill aims to replace the Indian Penal Code of 1860 and introduce new laws to address crimes against women and the social issues they face. For the first time, the bill will consider marrying a woman by hiding one’s identity or making false promises of marriage, promotion, or employment as a criminal offense. According to the bill, individuals who deceive women and engage in sexual intercourse without intending to fulfill their promises may face imprisonment for up to ten years and a fine. Additionally, the bill seeks to make voyeurism applicable to all genders, with a punishment ranging from three to seven years. It also includes provisions for murder, rape, and gang rape, and punishments for rape victims, perpetrators, as well as police officers or armed forces involved in such cases.
