Mumbai ends an eight-year wait with the 42nd Ranji title. Deba, March 14, 2024 After a historic chase of 538 runs, Mumbai defeated Vidarbha with 368 runs to win their 42nd Ranji Trophy, their first since 2015–16. Fast bowler Tushar Deshpande and spin-bowling all-arounder Tanush Kotian led the attack, and in his final game for Mumbai, seasoned player Dhawal Kulkarni completed the triumph. Deshpande and Mohit Avasthi, who shared the team’s top wicket-taking total for the season, were left in charge of Mumbai’s seam assault. Mumbai re-established their dominance in the domestic arena despite Shareyas Iyer’s back injury. Kotian was named Player-of-the-tournament after finishing the season with 29 wickets and 502 runs. Mumbai was forced to wait for a breakthrough by Wadkar and Dubey, but Kotian’s slog sweeps allowed him to score his second half-century in first class cricket.
