The new Bill, introduced by Union Home Minister Amit Shah, aims to overhaul the country’s criminal laws, repealing the Indian Penal Code, the Code of Criminal Procedure, and the Indian Evidence Act. The new bill prioritizes crimes against women, children, murders, and offenses against the state. The Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita will replace the 1860 Indian Penal Code, while the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita will replace the Code of Criminal Procedure. The changes have been referred to a Standing Committee for review. Community service will be included in petty offenses, and gender-neutral offenses have been added. The aim is to provide justice and create a sentiment of stopping crime.
